A hard reset is required (exact same issue with the ASUS DVD drive). Soon as I place a Music CD into the drive, tried several it does not see the music CD, system becomes unstable and eventually freezes.
I can install software from it just fine. It was the very last step that had me adding a Key into registry that fix part of the problem. I went to MS support and followed there 5 step process to resolving this issue. After completing the install the DVD drive did not show up in device manager. I did a completely new install of windows 8.1. To prove that I bought a brand new DVD drive "Lite On 24X DVDRW L12-1312.
Hi as I suspected it is not a DVD Drive Hardware or firmware issue. I would uninstall that firmware, if possible and then try to install the version 1.03 from Asus website in compatibility mode. So either the version you have listed is a typo or you have the incorrect firmware installed. Gtech2014 I looked on the Asus site, there are drivers (firmware) vs 1.03 for that particular model but they only go up to windows 7. (Don't quote me on that part.)īut then, that doesn't make much sense to me, since the installer is gone, and in it's place is the uninstaller. Upon further thought, I think it may be an antipiracy measure my Microsoft, as only registered customers where given copies of the CP, and the installer has no validation code if I recall. When the computer is started without the Windows 8 disk in the drive then there is no cd/dvd drive. Also when I restore to any of the images I have saved the cd/dvd drive is ok. This tells me that the cd/dvd drive is ok and the driver is also ok. If I put the Windows 8 disk in the drive and start the computer then the cd/dvd drive is shown in both the device manager and disk management.
I also know how to dual boot and do a virtual disk install but choose not to do either of those. I can restore to any of those configurations in about 5 minutes. I use Acronis True image to make backups of different configurations (Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7 (32-bit) and (64-bit) all stored on my D drive. Intel i5-750 cpu and Asus Motherboard and graphic card and 4gb memory. I have dual hard drives: A 60gb OCZ SSD for the C drive and 750gb Western Digital for the D drive. I did a clean install of Windows 8 (32-Bit) and everything works just fine except for the fact that the cd/dvd drive is not shown in device manager or disk management. Windows 8 does not recognize my cd/dvd drive.
